Thought for the Day: I will trust God!
Far too many Christians seem to live by Murphy’s Law. However, when we trust God during trying times, we discover that God always has a plan. If we are really listening to God, we even learn that things actually go according to plan. For anyone who tends to expect that “anything that can go wrong will go wrong”, learning to trust God will leave them pleasantly surprised!
After Jonah’s misadventure on the open sea, he took responsibility for running away and accepted God’s call. He turned around and headed to Nineveh. Once there he delivered a warning: “Repent”! That must have been a nerve-wracking time for Jonah. After all, how many people really accept their need to change. But, amazingly, everything went according to God’s plan. “The people of Nineveh believed God’s message, and from the greatest to the least, they declared a fast and put on burlap to show their sorrow.” Rather than angrily chasing Jonah out of the city, the people turned to God. Things worked out for both Nineveh and Jonah.
It’s always important to remember that we can’t control what will happen. However, this doesn’t mean that we should expect things to go wrong. If we expect Murphy’s Law to prevail, we are not living by faith. The Bible teaches us that to live by faith, we should pray and follow God’s leading. Although we can’t control outcomes, we will learn to be like Jonah and leave the results to God. As we see that God really is in control, we will learn to trust Him more. We will also learn the lesson of Jonah: God can be trusted!
Are you facing something that is troubling you today? Learn the lesson of Jonah and, rather than trying to go it alone, let’s trust God!
In Christ,
Pastors Stan and David
