08 Apr I Am Reminded Of Your Sincere Faith
Read 2 Timothy 1
Thought for the Day: “I am reminded of your sincere faith.”
As I was having a conversation with my Dad about Christian figures in the 21st Century, I pointed out a concern. In our time of social media, everyone wants to be famous and this fame comes through controversy. This is not the Biblical concept of faith. In the New Testament, we see that those living strong lives of faith learned to live the right way within the context of a pagan culture.
In the Apostle Paul’s final letter, we see firsthand the value of living faithfully. Rather than fame or controversy, Paul reminded Timothy of his family’s heritage. They had learned live out a sincere faith: “I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.” Writing at the end of his ministry, Paul was not impressed by those who drew large crowds or performed amazing deeds. Instead, he was inspired by the multi-generational faith of a common family.
What does it mean to live as a Christian today? While it seems like others may try to be showy by seeking controversy, let’s remember the wisdom of the Apostle Paul. While influence on social media or controversy may look important for a moment, in the long run they aren’t. Instead, let’s learn that our best faith is found when we trust Christ and learn to be quiet, sincere, and strong!
In Christ,
Pastor David (and Stan)
