God is My Helper

God is My Helper

Read Psalm 54 (NLT)
Thought for the Day: God is my helper!

When I was in Seventh Grade, a peer falsely accused me of saying something rude. However, by the midpoint of that school year, I was a frequent resident in the Detention Room… so, I lost the “benefit of the doubt” and found myself headed to the principal’s office. As I marched down with a scowl on my face, I was furious. While it HAD been a rough year (I had made my fair share of immature comments), I hadn’t done what I was now being accused of. As I opened the door, I started preparing for the worst, deciding that I would use this opportunity to share all the dirt I thought I had on my peer. I can remember hearing my Seventh Grade brain using the following logic: “If I can’t fix the situation, I can at least get even!”

As I entered the office, something odd happened: I almost plowed over my History teacher. He smiled at me and quietly left the room. Before I could say anything, the principal informed me that my teacher had gotten there first and explained everything. He overheard the real conversation I had with my peer and vouched for me to the principal. Rather than me arguing my case or trying to get even (and making things worse), my teacher had cleared everything up. I stayed silent other than a brief “thank you.”

At the times when life seems to make no sense, let’s remember that it is God’s job (not ours) to solve the seemingly impossible situations in our lives: “For strangers are attacking me; violent people are trying to kill me. They care nothing for God. But God is my helper. The Lord keeps me alive!.” The Psalmist reminds us that we are asked to turn to God for help in our times of need. Today, no matter what has happened in the past, God is our helper when we turn back to Him in repentance. When we seek to live the right way and follow God in our lives, He is our helper! We never need to seek revenge. Instead, let’s pray and ask for God’s help!.

In Christ,
Pastor David (and Stan)
