02 Feb Love is our “HOW”
Read 1 Corinthians 16:14
Thought for the Day: “Let all that you do be done in love.”
This past decade a considerable amount of thought has been put into helping people and companies find their WHY. Our WHY is the reason behind our decisions. Many leaders have found themselves sitting through training where they are instructed to focus on their motives for making decisions. Rather than simply focusing on WHAT (the end product), leaders learn to start with WHY. The shift in focus allows them to have a sense of purpose which leads to success.
As important as it is, it is not enough to only focus on our WHY. Consider the following example: A restaurant owner realizes that his job isn’t just to run a profitable business. He believes in the importance of connecting local butchers and farmers to the community. He embraces his WHY and adopts a “farm-to-table” concept. What’s missing? The HOW. HOW he implements his vision matters. Without the right strategy, even the most original farm-to-table restaurant will fail.
As Christians, we need to embrace both our WHY and our HOW. Spouses, parents, leaders, students, and employees all have this in common. The Bible gives us clear direction. HOW? The Bible teaches, with love! “Let all that you do be done in love.” Notice what isn’t said. We aren’t told to do everything with charm or persuasion. Instead, we are simply asked to do everything with love.
Whenever we try to control things ourselves, we quickly discover that we are powerless. When we try to be someone other than who God created us to be, we quickly run up against our limitations. However, when we do everything in love, we see that love is the ultimate HOW. With love, our life becomes better. Jesus put it this way, “By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
In Christ,
