Keep Swimming!

Keep Swimming!

Read Matthew 14:22-33
Thought for the Day: Just keep swimming!

There are times when we will see wonderful examples of God’s enduring truth in the most unusual places. Theologians call this “Common Grace”. Glimpses of God’s truth can be found everywhere as long as we are open to seeing them (Romans 1:20). One example of this is found in the Pixar film, Finding Nemo. After watching it, who hasn’t been inspired by the courage of Dory? When Marlin, the clownfish, is struggling to keep going because the ocean seems too long, Dory responds with a simple instruction: “KEEP SWIMMING!” Embedded right in this modern children’s classic is what we need to remember when we become doubtful and find our faith weakening. We need to keep swimming!

In the 14th Chapter of the Gospel of Matthew, the disciples had just seen Jesus miraculously feed 5,000 men plus women and children starting with just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Following this, the disciples set out on a boat. Suddenly, Jesus came walking on the water. At the sight of this, Peter got excited and asked Jesus if he could walk out to meet Him. Jesus told Peter to come, and for the second time on the same day, Peter witnessed the power of Jesus. However, Peter was filled with fear. Instead of keeping going, he took his eyes off of Jesus. This resulted in Peter sinking.

At various times in our lives, we find ourselves moving forward and discover that God is leading. During those times God’s presence amazes us. However, too often we take our eyes off Jesus, get filled with fear, and forget to “KEEP SWIMMING”. No matter what we face, let’s remember that Jesus is our Savior and will never leave us alone. As long as we trust Him and “KEEP SWIMMING” we will be able to face everything that comes our way!

In Christ,
Pastors Stan and David
