Go in Humble

Go in Humble

Read Luke 14:1-11

Thought for the Day: It is far better to go in humble!

One day, Jesus was invited to a fancy dinner party at the house of a prominent religious leader along with a group of prestigious guests. While some people in Jesus’ ministry sought to ask the most difficult questions, He used this gathering as an opportunity to turn the tables.

Noticing that the party guests had a ‘what’s in it for me’ mindset, Jesus pointed out that the better way is to show up without ego. Rather than attempting to sit next to the host and becoming embarrassed when asked to move for a more important guest, Jesus suggested starting out in the cheap seats. His reasoning was simple: “Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” After all, it is far better to start with humility than be humiliated! Each of their experiences would have been much better if they had gone in humble rather than prideful.

Remember – Jesus wasn’t just talking about the seating chart at fancy dinner parties. We all experience countless opportunities where we have a choice: go in with ego or go in humble. We live in a me-first society. Spend three seconds either online or in public and you will encounter countless people jockeying for position. Let’s live differently and take Jesus’ advice: life is not all about us trying to glorify ourselves. Instead, good things happen when we go in humble.

In Christ,

Pastors Stan and David
