Thought for the Day: Today is a great day to slow down!
When raising children to know and love Jesus, there are few things more important than family mealtime. While we can find it easy to make time for outside activities and general busyness, many families find it a challenge to consistently set aside designated time together. Yet, the research is clear: family mealtime has unparalleled benefits. Mealtime is a place for consistent relationship-building. Family mealtime is the best time as it reminds us that we are called to slow down, decompress, and encourage each other!
On the night Jesus gave Himself up for us, He could have done anything He wanted. That night, He gathered His friends together for a meal saying, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” But, what is especially notable is the fact that He knew exactly what each of His friends would do and still He wanted to spend family time with them.
In our busy lives, it is easy to forget that Jesus calls us to slow down. He has made all of His followers (including each of us) members of His family. Too often, we may find ourselves trying to ‘go it alone’ and this results in each of us feeling isolated. At these times, let’s stop and pray. Then, let’s reach out to the other Christians in our lives: the members of our Family!
In Christ,
Pastors Stan and David
