Letting Go of I

Letting Go of I

Thought for the Day: Jesus is the answer!

It is easy to become preoccupied with concerns like “I don’t have enough” (FEAR), “I haven’t done enough” (GUILT), or “I’m not good enough” (SHAME). With all three of these, there is one common denominator: “I…” Jesus Himself made it clear: following him is not about “I…” Instead, “If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”

We live in a very “I”-centered society. It is crucial to not fall into the trap of making it all about “I…” If we make our faith walk about what “I am doing” or “I have done” or even what “I have not done” we are on a very dangerous path. Faith in Christ means that we understand that none of us has enough, has done enough, or is good enough. The only exception to this is our Savior, Jesus. With this understanding, we put our faith in Jesus, the only one who has enough (in Him alone, there is no need to fear), has done enough (in Him alone, there is no guilt), and is good enough (in Him alone, there is no shame).

Do we find ourselves succumbing to stinking thinking? Do we wrestle with fear, guilt, and/or shame? There is a solution! The Bible teaches us to put our faith in Jesus Christ and to turn our will over to Him. Everyone and everything else will let us down. It is in Christ alone that we will find true peace!

In Christ,
