Faith Through Action

Faith Through Action

Verse of the Day: Matthew 5:16

Over the course of my time serving as a pastor, I have often taken the time to meet with church members and ask the following question: “Who is the Christian who had the greatest impact on you?” After years of listening to a wide variety of answers, I have noticed a common theme: In nearly 40 years of ministry, no one has ever named a Christian who made an impact by arguing, being judgmental, or talking. Instead, every single answer I have ever received has been centered around how that impactful Christian lived.

Jesus Himself made it clear – we are best remembered by how we choose to live. In Jesus’ day, it was common for the religious leaders to talk and talk endlessly without considering the impact they actually had on others. Jesus reminded all who love God to “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Rather than being hyperfocused on words and undervaluing actions, Jesus stressed the importance of living the right way.

Even 2000+ years later, the best lives are lived by valuing actions over words. In our 21st Century society, new voices emerge each day seeking to influence us. Whether we scroll through social media, watch television, or go walking in public, a seemingly infinite number of groups/individuals attempt to get us to follow them. But when we learn to tune these out, we start to see the quiet, consistent faith of Christians around us. These quiet men and women of faith don’t need to say anything. Instead, they pray, follow Jesus, and live out their faith through action.|

Today, let’s realize that living out our faith isn’t about arguing or talking. Instead, each of us has the opportunity to pause and “let your light shine before others”!

In Christ,
Pastor Stan (and David)
