29 Sep Wisdom
Verse of the Day: James 3:17
In the Epistle of James, we are told to let go of advice rooted in bitterness and selfish ambition. Whether an idea comes from ourselves or someone else, anything that is not gentle and sincere is simply not Godly wisdom. Christians are by definition followers of Jesus. He did not come to be served, but to serve. In all that He did, Jesus came to show us a better way.
When I was a young pastor, I attended an event where the topic was forgiveness. Something one woman said that day made a lifelong impression on me. She explained how her son had been killed by a drunk driver. Then, she told how she met him to let him know she forgave him. What struck me most was that she went on to say that she had no idea if her forgiveness made any difference to him. However, she discovered that her forgiveness allowed her to remember her son with joy and live each day at peace. She imparted Godly wisdom on all of us.
James put it this way, “the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.”
In Christ,
Pastor Stan (and David)
