Thought for the Day: Our God is greater than we can imagine!
Years ago, I came home after Kindergarten and was excited when I realized my grandparents would be watching me for the afternoon. After getting a snack, I grabbed paper and crayons so I could make them a picture. Having looked forward to being a kindergartner for as long as I could remember, I wanted to show them what my new school looked like. So, I sat down and drew a one-room schoolhouse with two occupants: myself and my teacher.
When I was finished, I proudly presented my artwork to my grandparents. My Grandpa loved it but Grandma Cushing asked me a question: “David, isn’t your school a little bigger than that?” It took me a moment, but I realized she was right. Lincoln Central Elementary was far bigger than the one-room schoolhouse my Kindergarten brain could picture!
When it comes to our understanding of God, we are like Kindergartners. As humans, our brains can simply not comprehend His greatness, love, or power. Instead of trusting that God is far greater than we could ever imagine, we tend to put God into a box of our own understanding. However, the Apostle Paul describes God as “Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think.”
Today, let’s stop drawing one-room schoolhouses in our spiritual lives! After all, our God is far greater than we could ever imagine!
In Christ,
Pastor David (and Stan)
