Chosen (LOOK IN THE MIRROR Day Five)

Read  1 Peter 2:9-10
Thought for the Day: I am part of God’s family!

Each of us faces moments where we feel we aren’t “good enough”. I can remember times in my childhood when I was the last pick in a game of basketball. Though I was given countless solos throughout my vocal career, I still remember coming in in the wrong key at my 11th Grade cabaret concert. While I am blessed to be in a Christian marriage, I still sometimes look around and see other husbands appear to do a “better” job. Of course, I could go on and on with examples just like anyone else.

Fortunately, living a Christian life isn’t about being “good enough”. Being a Christian is about having faith in Christ and serving God even as we continue to mess up. Peter tells us that we are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession”. Peter was the person who denied Christ three times. However, he still understood that all of us (including him) are chosen, royalty, and holy. God doesn’t want us to be anyone other than who we are. He calls each of us right where we are and asks us to follow Jesus.

In the moments where we mess up, let’s ask God for help. If we look in the mirror, an honest look at ourselves will help us see that God doesn’t ask us to be better than we are on our own. If He did, none of us would have been chosen. Instead, the Holy Spirit dwells within us and changes us from within. The Holy Spirit helps us resist sin and the ways of the world. So, at the times when we feel we aren’t “good enough”, let’s remember that to God we are good enough. After all, He chose us!

In Christ,
Pastor David (and Stan)
