20 Jul Gotta Serve Somebody (LOOK IN THE MIRROR Day Two)
Read James 4:7-10
Thought for the Day: “Submit yourselves to God!”
At various times throughout the last 30+ years, my Dad has periodically attempted to convert me into a Bob Dylan fan, each time unsuccessfully. I have never fully understood those who love his music. Let’s be frank: the guy has a hard time singing and his lyrics tend to fall on the pretentious side. But I have grown to at least appreciate “Gotta Serve Somebody” a hidden gem off a mostly forgotten album.
In this song, Bob Dylan transforms into a theologian and points out that each of us has a choice: we can serve God or the world, but we can’t serve both. Each of us must choose and this message is in line with Scripture. In the Epistle of James, we are instructed to serve God rather than the world. James is quite clear: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Today, we have a choice. Let’s look in the mirror and honestly ask this question: Who do we serve?
In Christ,
Pastor David (and Stan)
