07 Jul “Consistent Prayer”
Read Colossians 4:2-4
Thought for the Day: Continue steadfastly in prayer!
When it is time to make a big decision, what is your process? Do you call a trusted friend or family member? Do you go with your gut? Do you check to see if statistical data or research is available? As Christians, we are asked to pray and come before God with our concerns. While conferring with those we trust, considering gut feelings, and consulting data are all helpful, we are asked to pray. Consistent prayer is the best way to discern God’s will for our lives.
Adoniram Judson has a plaque in his memory on Burial Hill in Downtown Plymouth. While he ultimately set out from Massachusetts and became one of the first American missionaries to Asia, Judson began his ministry by first praying for an entire year. For twelve calendar months, Judson consistently prayed and asked God for wisdom, guidance, and discernment. Ultimately, Judson’s ministry was so successful that his Burmese language Bible is still the most commonly used translation in Myanmar. But, this would never have been possible if he hadn’t sought God’s guidance through prayer.
What about us? Do we make decisions hastily? Or – are we willing to pause and ask God to guide us? Adoniram Judson prayed for a year before making a major life change. The Apostle Paul prayed daily from prison. What is God calling you to pray for today? What is one thing in your life you can thank God for today? Let’s focus on committing to prayer today, and see where God leads our day. As we navigate life’s decisions, let’s never forget the words of the Apostle Paul: “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving”!
