Going All-In

Going All-In

Read Joshua 24:14-28
Thought for the Day: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!”

When is the time to go “all-in”? Although we may not have thought of it this way, going “all-in” is actually in line with Biblical teachings. In the Old Testament, we see the cost of attempting to follow idols like the Golden Calf or Baal. Jesus taught that we cannot serve both God and money. Judas betrayed Jesus over thirty pieces of silver. The Book of Acts made it clear with the story of Ananias and Sapphira that God asks us to follow Him alone. To follow God is to go “all-in”!

Both before and after Joshua’s leadership, the Israelites often fell into idolatry. They would worship idols rather than God. Knowing that the people had struggle Joshua used his final speech to give a clear message: “choose this day whom you will serve”. Put simply: because anyone who chooses to follow God cannot serve Him AND something else, it is far better to make a choice rather than to waver. Anything less than choosing to serve God leads to disaster.

Today’s question is simple, “Am I ‘all-in’ spiritually?” Let’s see that we have a choice. We can choose to follow God alone or follow everything else. Today’s idols are everything from popularity to our material possessions. Trying to follow God while pursuing idols is really the same as choosing to not follow at all. Let’s learn the lesson of Joshua: “as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD”! Today is the day for us to go “all-in”!
