11 Jun Eggs or Scorpions?
Read Luke 11:9-12
Thought for the Day: When we pray, God provides what we need!
In the Eleventh Chapter of Luke’s Gospel, Jesus made it clear: when we pray to our Heavenly Father, He provides what we need. Never shying away from a good illustration, Jesus points out that God is far greater than even the best earthly father. Still, just as a human parent provides the right food for their children (fresh eggs rather than scorpions), our Heavenly Father provides what we need when we ask Him. When we try to do everything ourselves, we complicate our lives. We end up settling for scorpions when we could have eggs.
We live in a society that seems to be constantly asking and searching for answers. However, instead of turning to God in prayer, our society tries to find satisfaction through anyone and anything other than God. Too stubborn to humbly turn to our Heavenly Father, we settle for doing things our own way and eating scorpions.
But, when we remember that we are followers of Jesus we realize that He has told us what to do: “ask… seek… knock…” This is great advice! Are we bringing our needs to God every day in prayer? At the times when we fail to consistently pray to our Heavenly Father, let’s realize that we are settling for scorpions when He wants to give us fresh eggs!
In Christ,
