Thought for the Day: Jesus has given me a new life!
Before Jesus paid the ultimate price on the Cross, we were lost. Try as we might to obey laws, individuals have never been able to do it perfectly. Attempting to build a relationship with God through good works only shows us that we can never be perfect. At the end of the day, every human to be perfect has fallen short. The Bible is clear that every person misses the mark and therefore we are all rightly called sinners. Even Old Testament leaders like Moses and David made a major mess of their lives!
Today Christians often mistakenly believe that Jesus only SHOWS us a better way and it is our job to go out and obey. Although Jesus is our example, this thinking is a half-truth at best. Let’s be clear – none of us can ever save ourselves through our actions. Instead, this is why Jesus PROVIDES a new life for us. When we accept His forgiveness, we are freed from both the power and guilt of our failures.
The Apostle Paul was writing to Titus, a young leader in the Early Church, and he said, “When the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior.”
Jesus has done more than just show us the possibility of a new way to live. When we start to think we can get life perfect, we end up falling short and feeling guilty. Instead, let’s learn to experience the freedom without guilt that comes by accepting the forgiveness that Christ offers. Then we can live the new life Jesus has provided us. Today, let’s let go of guilt and rejoice in Him!
In Christ,
