Thought for the Day: With God’s leading, I can get through every “today”
Many names exist in the pantheon of great action heroes: Black Panther, Wonder Woman, Indiana Jones, etc., etc., etc. But, what about Jack Bauer? He’s the man who single-handedly saved America nine times. If you watched 24, you will remember that each of its episodes happened in real-time with each season comprising a day in Jack’s life. What was most amazing about Jack Bauer was his ability to stay in the moment. As atomic bombs were about to go off and the season’s mole (traitor) was about to go free, Jack didn’t focus on tomorrow. Instead, he did his best to make the right choices and get through the day.
Jesus taught us the importance of living for today. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” These words encourage us to see the benefits of doing what we can to follow God’s leading. We need to understand that tomorrow we will once again have an opportunity to stay focused on the present. If we are not careful, we can make decisions based on fears of a future that may never come. When that happens, we find ourselves ignoring today’s responsibilities and opportunities.
Yes, life is full of uncertainties. But, if we focus too much on what comes next, we can be blindsided by the rest of today. As we go through each day, let’s realize that we don’t need to live in fear of our futures. After all, God leads and guides us. Once we are done following Him through the rest of today, He is more than capable of guiding us through tomorrow once it becomes today!
In Christ,
Pastor David
