27 Dec Jesus – Our Ticket to Heaven
Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
By Meaghan Figlioli, Children’s Ministry Director
Have you ever gone to the movies, been on an airplane, attended a concert, play or enjoyed an amusement park. What did you need to get in? . . . a Ticket!
The reason we have tickets is because movies, amusement parks, concerts, plays, and airplane flights all cost money. Rather than having us pay right when we walk in, we can buy a ticket that gives us admission when the time comes for the movie, the flight, play, etc. What happens if we don’t pay for a ticket? We can’t get in, can we?
Each year in December this church has a night where we show the movie The Polar Express. If you haven’t seen it, you should come next year! But really, if you haven’t seen it, there is a big focus on the ticket to ride the Polar Express Train that takes children on an amazing adventure. The movie makes a number of points, but having a ticket is certainly a major point! The children on board the train realize that the only way they can ride and get to their destination is with their ticket.
One day, we will all have a chance to go to Heaven. Something that is very different about Heaven than all of the other things mentioned is that we don’t need an actual ticket that we have to hold onto to get in. The Bible teaches that we just need to believe in and accept Jesus because He provides our path into heaven and He purchased our way in and He is our ticket.Think about it.
You and I lose things. If we were given an actual ticket, we might misplace it. If you have watched the Polar Express, you know that paper tickets can even fly out of our hands. But with Jesus we never need to worry. He paid our price, He is our ticket, and He always holds onto us and will never lose anyone of us!
There is no money that you need to pay for this ticket because the price was paid by Jesus.
Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for sending your son Jesus. As we celebrate his birth, and enjoy the gifts that we receive, help us remember that Jesus is our greatest gift. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
We introduced Matt Maher’s, “Glory Let There Be Peace” this Christmas to our worship!
